Day 114 Curiosity | Acts 17:24-32

Day 114 Curiosity | Acts 17:24-32

Send us a text

Curiosity opens doors to profound spiritual discovery. Today we journey to ancient Athens, where the Apostle Paul encounters a city saturated with idols, temples, and philosophical thinking. Among countless shrines to various deities, he spots something remarkable – an altar dedicated "to an unknown God." This small acknowledgment of mystery becomes Paul's perfect entry point for sharing the Gospel.

What happens when we recognize the limits of our understanding? Paul seizes this moment to introduce the Athenians to the Creator who transcends human-made temples and idols. The God who needs nothing from us is simultaneously the source of everything we have – "in him we live and move and exist." This paradox challenges both ancient and modern assumptions about spirituality.

The climax of Paul's message focuses on the resurrection of Jesus – the definitive proof of God's plan for humanity. This proclamation divides his audience, just as it continues to do today. Some dismiss it with laughter, while others lean in with genuine curiosity, wanting to explore further. This reaction pattern hasn't changed in two thousand years. The resurrection remains the ultimate spiritual curiosity – a historical claim with cosmic implications that demands a personal response. Are you brushing it off, or does it awaken hope and wonder in your heart? Today's invitation is clear: embrace the curiosity of faith. Lean in, listen closely, and discover the incredible power of resurrection that transforms lives forever.

00:00:07.394 --> 00:00:08.762
I'm Rick.

Join me as I dive into God's Word to find clarity and strength for life's challenges.

00:00:13.653 --> 00:00:19.489
Let me help you embrace each day with faith and wisdom, ready to feel inspired.

00:00:19.489 --> 00:00:21.019
Let's get started.

00:00:21.019 --> 00:00:22.963
Let's get started.

00:00:23.003 --> 00:00:34.740
Today is day 114, curiosity from the book of Acts, chapter 17, verses 24 through 32, from the New Living Translation.

00:00:34.740 --> 00:00:40.746
He is the God who made the world and everything in it, since he is the Lord of heaven and earth.

00:00:40.746 --> 00:00:47.351
He doesn't live in a man-made temple and human hands can't serve his needs, for he has no needs.

00:00:47.351 --> 00:01:00.140
He himself gives life and breath to everything and he satisfies every need From one man.

00:01:00.140 --> 00:01:03.828
He created all the nations throughout the whole earth, he decided beforehand when they should rise and fall and he determines their boundaries.

00:01:03.828 --> 00:01:19.993
His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way towards him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us, for in him we live and move and exist, and some of your own poets have said we are his offspring.

00:01:19.993 --> 00:01:27.093
And since this is true, we shouldn't think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone.

00:01:27.093 --> 00:01:46.150
God overlooked people's ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him, for he has set a day for judging the world with justice by man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.

00:01:46.150 --> 00:01:56.873
When they heard Paul speak about the resurrection of the dead, some laughed in contempt, but others said we want to hear more about this later Now.

00:01:56.933 --> 00:02:05.412
While visiting Athens, the Apostle Paul noticed that the city was filled with statues, temples and shrines devoted to countless gods.

00:02:05.412 --> 00:02:11.072
He even found an altar labeled to an unknown god just to cover all their bases.

00:02:11.072 --> 00:02:17.532
Paul showed this as an open door to talk about Jesus and the incredible power of the resurrection.

00:02:17.532 --> 00:02:26.294
Paul introduced them to one true God, the creator, who doesn't live in temples and isn't made from gold or stone.

00:02:26.294 --> 00:02:33.013
This is the God who sent Jesus, his son, to the world to pay the price for our sin.

00:02:33.013 --> 00:02:39.432
Even though Jesus had done nothing wrong, he died on a cross in our place.

00:02:39.432 --> 00:02:45.451
Then God raised him from the dead, proving his power over sin and death forever.

00:02:46.460 --> 00:02:50.230
Paul's message about Jesus and the resurrection got mixed reactions.

00:02:50.230 --> 00:02:58.290
Some people laughed and brushed it off, others leaned in with curiosity, wanting to know more.

00:02:58.290 --> 00:03:02.129
The resurrection still sparks these reactions today.

00:03:02.129 --> 00:03:06.788
Some people dismiss it, but others become curious and hungry for more.

00:03:06.788 --> 00:03:08.432
What about you?

00:03:08.432 --> 00:03:12.766
Does the resurrection awaken hope and curiosity in your heart?

00:03:12.766 --> 00:03:26.247
Today, I want you to embrace the curiosity of faith, lean in, listen closely and discover all the amazing things God has done through Jesus' resurrection.

00:03:26.247 --> 00:03:30.262
Pray with me, father God.

00:03:30.262 --> 00:03:39.612
Even though I don't fully understand everything about your resurrection power, fill me with wonder and curiosity to know you better, amen.

00:03:39.612 --> 00:03:46.969
Well, that's all for today, but I'll be back tomorrow with more of God's Word.
