00:00:19.466 --> 00:00:21.065
Let's get started.
00:00:23.140 --> 00:00:32.253
Today is Day 13, a new authority Reading from Mark, chapter 1, verse 27 from the New Living Translation.
00:00:32.253 --> 00:00:35.103
What is this?
00:00:35.103 --> 00:00:38.512
A new teaching, and with authority.
00:00:38.512 --> 00:00:46.569
When Jesus enters the scene, everything changes Our hope, our desire for transformation.
00:00:46.569 --> 00:00:47.991
It takes on a new form.
00:00:47.991 --> 00:00:57.314
Hurting people, sinful temptations, brokenness, disease they all come face to face with his authority.
00:00:58.579 --> 00:01:09.013
Now, in this story, people notice Jesus' authority in two key areas His teaching and his power over impure spirits or demons.
00:01:09.013 --> 00:01:14.751
There was something different about Jesus compared to the other religious teachers of his time.
00:01:14.751 --> 00:01:20.953
Mark's gospel highlights that the first thing about Jesus' public ministry was his authority.
00:01:20.953 --> 00:01:31.688
Now, a lot of times we long to see Jesus' authority in the face of diseases and financial struggles and broken relationships, all kinds of injustice.
00:01:31.688 --> 00:01:36.686
But we don't always pause to consider the spiritual side of our suffering.
00:01:36.686 --> 00:01:44.844
The Apostle Paul reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood Ephesians 6.12.
00:01:44.844 --> 00:01:53.995
Instead, we face spiritual forces that try to convince us that our circumstances, not our hearts, are the real problem.
00:01:55.260 --> 00:02:02.534
It's also worth noting that Jesus' teachings, not just his miracles, stirred a reaction from the crowds.
00:02:02.534 --> 00:02:07.912
But simply being amazed isn't the same as submitting to His authority.
00:02:07.912 --> 00:02:10.707
The teachings require a choice.
00:02:10.707 --> 00:02:14.449
Jesus' teachings require a choice.
00:02:14.449 --> 00:02:18.008
They either we submit to Him or we resist.
00:02:18.008 --> 00:02:24.612
He invites us to bring our hurts, diseases and our hearts under His authority.
00:02:24.612 --> 00:02:28.983
How will you respond?
00:02:28.983 --> 00:02:31.646
Let's pray, Jesus.
00:02:31.646 --> 00:02:35.954
You rule over all things by your Word and Spirit.
00:02:35.954 --> 00:02:59.010
Enter our lives, Lord, with your authority.
00:02:59.010 --> 00:03:00.111
Today we pray Amen.
00:03:00.111 --> 00:03:04.395
