Embark on a transformative journey where spiritual growth transcends physical boundaries. Have you ever wondered what it truly means to be a follower of "the way"? Today, we unravel the timeless wisdom found in Acts 24:14, taking inspiration from the tale of Serap Topton, a 4th-century desert farmer whose encounter with a reclusive Christian woman in Rome holds a powerful lesson about the spiritual path. Join me, Rick, as we reflect on how our journey with Christ is a continuous, evolving adventure, guiding us to stretch beyond life's challenges with renewed faith and purpose.

Together, we explore the notion of believers as eternal wayfarers, a concept rooted in early Christian teachings. While our daily lives may feel stagnant, spiritually, we are always progressing, pressing forward towards eternal destinations. Through stories from Scripture, we seek to learn from the journeys of God's people, exploring how to overcome spiritual stagnation and embrace discipleship with vigor. Let this episode serve as your spiritual compass, offering insights to invigorate your faith and inspire you to walk with Jesus each day. Join us for an episode packed with wisdom, reflection, and a call to action for your own spiritual expedition.

00:00:02.564 --> 00:00:07.413
Welcome to Wisdom for the Day, your daily source for spiritual refreshment and guidance.

00:00:07.413 --> 00:00:08.734
I'm Rick.

00:00:08.734 --> 00:00:13.651
Join me as I dive into God's Word to find clarity and strength for life's challenges.

00:00:13.651 --> 00:00:19.466
Let me help you embrace each day with faith and wisdom, ready to feel inspired.

00:00:19.466 --> 00:00:21.065
Let's get started.

00:00:21.065 --> 00:00:32.435
Today is Day 32, on the Road from the book of Acts, chapter 24, verse 14, from the New Living Translation.

00:00:32.435 --> 00:00:37.832
I worship the God of our fathers as a follower of the way.

00:00:39.601 --> 00:00:50.588
In the 4th century, a desert farmer named Serap Topton traveled from Egypt to Rome, where he visited an elderly Christian woman known for her quiet, reclusive life.

00:00:50.588 --> 00:00:53.661
Now she rarely left the room that she called home.

00:00:53.661 --> 00:01:00.703
Sarah Topton, who loved to travel, was skeptical of her lifestyle and asked why are you sitting here?

00:01:00.703 --> 00:01:04.451
And she answered I'm not sitting, I'm on a journey.

00:01:04.451 --> 00:01:06.174
And she was right.

00:01:06.174 --> 00:01:16.343
You may not have had the desire or the ability to travel far and wide, but as a disciple of Jesus Christ, you too are on a journey.

00:01:17.266 --> 00:01:21.742
During the Middle Ages, spiritual writers often referred to believers as wayfarers.

00:01:21.742 --> 00:01:27.132
It reflected one of the earliest descriptions of Christians.

00:01:27.132 --> 00:01:31.728
In the New Testament, paul referred to them as followers of the way.

00:01:31.728 --> 00:01:35.221
Followers of the way don't set down permanent roots.

00:01:35.221 --> 00:01:38.569
They move through life with eternal destinations in mind.

00:01:38.569 --> 00:01:42.424
They keep stretching, growing and pressing forward.

00:01:42.424 --> 00:01:51.870
They're always walking on the way with Jesus Christ, who called himself the only way to God, from John 14.6.

00:01:51.870 --> 00:01:55.802
Now, throughout Scripture, we see much coming and going.

00:01:55.802 --> 00:02:05.551
God's people are always on the move, refusing to stay stuck in one place, always progressing in the journey with God.

00:02:06.661 --> 00:02:13.866
This month, let's explore the lessons that we can learn from them and help us on our own walk with the Lord.

00:02:13.866 --> 00:02:17.542
Pray with me, father.

00:02:17.542 --> 00:02:21.512
Our lives run the risk of spiritual stagnation.

00:02:21.512 --> 00:02:27.682
Put us on the road with Jesus to learn new lessons about faith and discipleship.

00:02:27.682 --> 00:02:31.393
In his precious name, we pray Amen.

00:02:31.393 --> 00:02:38.112
Well, that's all for today, but I'll be back tomorrow with more of God's Word.
