Let me help you embrace each day with faith and wisdom, ready to feel inspired.
00:00:19.484 --> 00:00:21.070
Let's get started.
00:00:21.070 --> 00:00:31.754
Today is Day 38, on the Run from Genesis, chapter 28, verse 15, from the New Living Translation.
00:00:31.754 --> 00:00:36.610
I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go.
00:00:38.841 --> 00:00:41.789
Jacob had really messed up and was running for his life.
00:00:41.789 --> 00:00:46.000
It's no surprise that he found himself exiled from his home.
00:00:46.000 --> 00:00:56.567
After all, his very name means deceiver and he had lived up to that name, tricking his brother Esau out of his birthright and fooling his father Isaac.
00:00:56.567 --> 00:01:07.862
Now, on the run to Haran, he was about to encounter his match in deception with his uncle Laban about to encounter his match in deception with his uncle Laban.
00:01:07.862 --> 00:01:15.141
One night, while in the middle of nowhere, jacob stopped to rest and it seemed like a forsaken place, far from home and far from God.
00:01:15.141 --> 00:01:33.692
But in that lonely spot, jacob saw something incredible a vision of a ladder or a stairway stretching from the earth to heaven, and at the top of it he saw the Lord, who promised to give Jacob the land that he was lying on to bless all the peoples of the world.
00:01:33.692 --> 00:01:42.251
Through him, in the wilderness, with nothing but a rock for a pillow, jacob received a promise of a future and a life with God.
00:01:42.251 --> 00:01:53.269
He called that place Bethel the house of God and, true to his nature, jacob responded with a vow that felt more like a bargain than a commitment.
00:01:53.269 --> 00:01:58.632
But even Jacob's flawed response didn't nullify God's gracious promise.
00:02:00.021 --> 00:02:06.028
It's unsettling how God can meet us in our messes, In the middle of us, running from our mistakes.
00:02:06.028 --> 00:02:09.501
He still loves us Now.
00:02:09.501 --> 00:02:20.326
Some of us might be on the run from our past right now, trying to slip away from the consequences of our choices, but even in those tight places, god shows us a way out.
00:02:20.326 --> 00:02:26.850
Jesus described himself as the fulfillment of Jacob's ladder, the gateway to heaven.
00:02:26.850 --> 00:02:30.506
He is the bridge that brings us into the presence of God.
00:02:30.506 --> 00:02:41.388
No matter how far we run, jesus provides a way back and through him we can find the grace, life and the future that God promises.
00:02:42.990 --> 00:02:45.432
Pray with me, father, god.
00:02:45.432 --> 00:02:50.044
We thank you that no matter how badly we mess up, you keep coming to find us.
00:02:50.044 --> 00:02:57.150
Help us to trust ourselves to Jesus, knowing that he can make all things right, amen.
00:02:57.150 --> 00:03:04.413
Well, that's all for today, but I'll be back tomorrow with more of God's Word.
00:03:04.413 --> 00:03:05.984
That's all for today, but I'll be back tomorrow with more of God's Word.
