Today is Day 43, greatest Journey.

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.

The greatest journey of all time isn't one that could be measured in miles or kilometers.

It's a journey that crosses the vast distance between the divine and the human.

The eternal word, the second person of the Trinity, became flesh.

God came down to live among us, literally pitching his tent in the person of Jesus Christ, us literally pitching his tent in the person of Jesus Christ.

He chose to dwell among people who were drowning in hopelessness.

But why did God do this?

I've heard a story that helps illustrate the reason.

A man's father worked as a foreman for the electric company.

Now, one miserably wet night, there was a power outage and that man was called out to fix the problem.

Now, when he and another person arrived at the site, the other workers were already there, unsure of how to proceed Without hesitation.

The man stripped off his overcoat, jumped into the pit with his men and started working on the wires.

A half an hour later he climbed out soaked with water and covered in dirt, but the power was restored.

That's kind of a model of the incarnation.

For centuries, god has spoken through the prophets telling humanity what needed to be done in this dark world.

God himself came down to us and he entered into our mess and our brokenness and he got his hands dirty, doing the work that nobody else could do bringing the light into the darkness.

Just like that, man restored power to the neighborhood.

Jesus came into the world to turn on the lights, illuminating a path out of the darkness of sin and hopelessness.
