Imagine standing atop the Empire State Building, gazing at the sprawling city below—a landscape of power and influence. Now picture Jesus, faced with the ultimate temptation, standing firm against the allure of worldly clout. What can we learn from his unwavering resolve? Join me, Rick, as I guide you through a reflective journey inspired by Luke 4:8, where we contemplate the ethical challenges we face today and the timeless strength we can draw from scriptures to overcome them.

In this episode of Wisdom for the Day, we navigate the temptations that tug at our moral compass, much like the seductive pull of Wall Street or the United Nations might. Discover how Jesus' steadfast reliance on God's truth offers a powerful blueprint for resisting shortcuts and staying true to our values. As we explore these spiritual insights, let's pray together for the strength to remain honest and grounded in our daily lives. 00:00:02.564 --> 00:00:07.394
Welcome to Wisdom for the Day, your daily source for spiritual refreshment and guidance.

00:00:07.394 --> 00:00:08.762
I'm Rick.

00:00:08.762 --> 00:00:13.653
Join me as I dive into God's Word to find clarity and strength for life's challenges.

00:00:13.653 --> 00:00:19.484
Let me help you embrace each day with faith and wisdom, ready to feel inspired.

00:00:19.484 --> 00:00:21.070
Let's get started.

00:00:21.070 --> 00:00:26.306
Today is Day 45, wild Trip.

00:00:26.306 --> 00:00:33.923
From the Gospel of Luke, chapter 4, verse 8, from the New Living Translation, jesus answered.

00:00:33.923 --> 00:00:37.462
It is written Now.

00:00:37.481 --> 00:00:40.570
A few years ago, I went on a trip to New York City.

00:00:40.570 --> 00:00:55.773
I went up to the observation deck on the Empire State Building and that was awesome and it was beautiful and, as I remember, looking out over the city, I thought about how, if Jesus were being tempted today, the devil could have brought him there.

00:00:55.773 --> 00:01:04.262
The devil might have nodded towards Wall Street, a global financial hub controlling a large portion of the world's wealth.

00:01:04.262 --> 00:01:15.393
He could have offered control over the communications network that influenced millions of people, or pointed to the United Nations building representing international powers and influence.

00:01:15.393 --> 00:01:25.012
That observation deck provides an impressive view and it's almost enough to make us believe that the real power and action lie in the world's kingdoms.

00:01:26.060 --> 00:01:28.368
Resisting the devil's lies can be tough.

00:01:28.368 --> 00:01:40.331
Even when we're offered just small taste of worldly power, our moral resolve can weaken Suddenly a shady but lucrative business deal seems justifiable.

00:01:40.331 --> 00:01:47.320
Cheating on our taxes or even on our spouse might not seem bad if we can rationalize it to ourselves.

00:01:47.320 --> 00:01:55.566
Temptations like these are enough to trip us up, and we can always come up with convincing results to justify our actions.

00:01:55.566 --> 00:01:58.676
But Jesus shows us another way.

00:01:58.676 --> 00:02:07.444
When the devil tempted him with all the offers of worldly power and influence, Jesus turned him down, quoting God's truth.

00:02:07.444 --> 00:02:13.981
In the face of the lies, jesus maintained his ethical strength by relying on the Word of God.

00:02:13.981 --> 00:02:20.441
In doing that, he gives us a model for how to stand strong when we face our own temptations.

00:02:20.441 --> 00:02:33.230
When we journey through the wilderness of life surrounded by the allure of power or wealth or shortcuts to success, we need the truth of God's word to keep us grounded and strong.

00:02:33.230 --> 00:02:42.234
Just like Jesus resisted the devil, we can draw strength from the scriptures to navigate the challenges that we face.

00:02:43.842 --> 00:02:47.960
Pray with me, lord.

00:02:47.960 --> 00:02:52.949
God, in the face of temptation, we have a tendency to play games, but your word keeps us honest.

00:02:52.949 --> 00:02:57.163
It keeps us honest with you and with ourselves.

00:02:57.163 --> 00:03:00.973
Mold our lives to your will, lord, amen.

00:03:00.973 --> 00:03:08.449
Well, that's all for today, but I'll be back tomorrow with more of God's Word.
