00:00:02.564 --> 00:00:07.413
Welcome to Wisdom for the Day, your daily source for spiritual refreshment and guidance.

00:00:07.413 --> 00:00:08.734
I'm Rick.

00:00:08.734 --> 00:00:13.651
Join me as I dive into God's Word to find clarity and strength for life's challenges.

00:00:13.651 --> 00:00:19.466
Let me help you embrace each day with faith and wisdom, ready to feel inspired.

00:00:19.466 --> 00:00:21.065
Let's get started.

00:00:21.065 --> 00:00:26.685
Today is Day 56, unexpected Visit.

00:00:26.685 --> 00:00:32.475
From the book of Revelation, chapter 3, verse 3, from the New Living Translation.

00:00:32.475 --> 00:00:38.311
I will come like a thief and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

00:00:40.261 --> 00:00:49.454
When I was a little boy and we were planning a family vacation, I would sometimes lie awake at night wondering whether we'd get to go on our trip before Jesus returned.

00:00:49.454 --> 00:00:55.313
I wanted Jesus to come back, of course, but I also really wanted to see Mickey Mouse.

00:00:55.313 --> 00:01:00.752
I thought it would be nice if he could just hold off a little while so we could enjoy our vacation first.

00:01:00.752 --> 00:01:06.373
Years later, I realized that we adults have the same thoughts.

00:01:06.373 --> 00:01:09.040
We're not against Jesus coming back.

00:01:09.040 --> 00:01:15.134
In fact, when we worship we speak with hopeful anticipation that he will return soon.

00:01:16.460 --> 00:01:20.391
But a lot of us also feel so comfortable with how things are for now.

00:01:20.391 --> 00:01:35.987
We have some exciting business ventures underway, or perhaps we're looking for the years of peaceful retirement ahead we might even want to tidy up some loose ends in our discipleship before Jesus returns.

00:01:35.987 --> 00:01:47.233
It's easy to put off preparing for the bridegroom's coming until it's too late, much like the unprepared bridesmaids in Jesus' parable from Matthew 25, 1 through 13.

00:01:47.233 --> 00:01:53.578
Jesus reminds us that his return won't conform to our schedules or preferences.

00:01:53.578 --> 00:02:03.876
Our responsibility is to be prepared now, living in anticipation of his coming.

00:02:03.876 --> 00:02:07.763
Now, what would change for us if we knew that Christ was preparing to open the gates of heaven today?

00:02:07.763 --> 00:02:08.764
Would we live differently?

00:02:08.764 --> 00:02:11.069
Would we love more deeply?

00:02:11.069 --> 00:02:14.181
Would we prioritize our walk with him?

00:02:14.181 --> 00:02:24.967
The truth is, we don't know the timing of his return, but we're called to live every day in readiness, as though his arrival is just around the corner.

00:02:24.967 --> 00:02:31.787
And people, it is right around the corner.

00:02:31.787 --> 00:02:34.770
Pray with me, lord.

00:02:34.770 --> 00:02:40.163
We so easily lose track of time With all the entries in our date books.

00:02:40.163 --> 00:02:42.748
We forget that your coming is near.

00:02:42.748 --> 00:02:47.080
Find us faithful stewards at your return, father.

00:02:47.080 --> 00:02:51.211
We pray in Jesus' precious name, amen.

00:02:51.211 --> 00:02:58.210
Well, that's all for today, but I'll be back tomorrow with more of God's Word.

I love you, see ya.
