Ever wondered why poverty persists despite our best efforts? Join me, Rick, on Wisdom for the Day as we untangle the complexities of "Needful Struggle" through the lens of Matthew 26:11. We'll confront head-on the reality of poverty as a lingering challenge to our societies, urging a reevaluation of blame and responsibility. Jesus' teachings remind us that our response to the poor is a profound reflection of our service to Him, offering both a challenge and an opportunity for compassionate action.

As we prepare to embark on a new year, let’s take inspiration from Jesus' dedication to the weak and oppressed, using His example to guide our hearts toward those in need. This episode encourages us to consider how we might better embody our love for Jesus by supporting and uplifting those facing hardships. Together, let us pray for the strength to step into the struggles of others, serving them with the riches of the gospel. Make sure to catch tomorrow's episode for more insights and inspirations from God's Word.

00:00:02.564 --> 00:00:07.413
Welcome to Wisdom for the Day, your daily source for spiritual refreshment and guidance.

00:00:07.413 --> 00:00:08.734
I'm Rick.

00:00:08.734 --> 00:00:13.651
Join me as I dive into God's Word to find clarity and strength for life's challenges.

00:00:13.651 --> 00:00:19.466
Let me help you embrace each day with faith and wisdom, ready to feel inspired.

00:00:19.466 --> 00:00:21.065
Let's get started.

00:00:24.161 --> 00:00:27.330
Today is Day 8, needful Struggle.

00:00:27.330 --> 00:00:39.770
We'll be reading from the book of Matthew, chapter 26, verse 11, from the New Living Translation the poor you will always have with you.

00:00:39.770 --> 00:00:58.530
Now these situations are all too familiar Families living paycheck to paycheck, single mothers struggling to stretch their resources, homeless men on street corners holding signs that say we'll work for food, and children with swollen bellies because they don't have enough to eat.

00:00:58.530 --> 00:01:05.587
In place of the abundance God provided in Eden, we now see poverty and need.

00:01:05.587 --> 00:01:09.664
Sometimes poverty is caused by injustice and oppression.

00:01:09.664 --> 00:01:23.242
Other times it's the result of bad choices that people make, and sometimes it happens because of things beyond their control, like injury, disability, losing a job due to corporate downsizing.

00:01:23.242 --> 00:01:24.926
Been there, done that.

00:01:24.926 --> 00:01:38.718
As societies, we often don't know how to address inequality and we tend to place blame in simple, one-sided ways.

00:01:41.200 --> 00:01:48.061
Jesus' words in Matthew 26 about the poor have sometimes been used to justify not helping those in need, but Jesus was simply acknowledging the brokenness of our world.

00:01:48.061 --> 00:01:53.573
He also taught that when we care for those in need, we're serving him directly.

00:01:53.573 --> 00:01:57.927
That comes from Matthew, chapter 25, 37 through 40.

00:01:57.927 --> 00:02:06.490
The woman who anointed Jesus was weak and broken, yet he protected her dignity and honored her struggle.

00:02:06.490 --> 00:02:09.227
The poor are still with us.

00:02:09.227 --> 00:02:17.253
Maybe in this new year, our love for Jesus will inspire us to show greater care for the weak and oppressed.

00:02:19.600 --> 00:02:24.891
Father, god, lord Jesus, you left heaven to become poor for our sake.

00:02:24.891 --> 00:02:28.338
God, lord Jesus, you left heaven to become poor for our sake.

00:02:28.338 --> 00:02:34.853
May we also be willing to enter the struggles of the poor in our midst and serve them with the riches of the gospel, amen.

00:02:34.853 --> 00:02:44.026
Well, that's all for today, but I'll be back tomorrow with more of God's Word.
