Day 89 Peace in the Storm | Mark 4:39-40

Day 89 Peace in the Storm | Mark 4:39-40

Send us a text

Have you ever felt completely overwhelmed by life, wondering where God is in your chaos? Lauren takes us deep into one of the Bible's most powerful stories of divine peace—Jesus calming the storm in Mark 4:39-40.

Through personal vulnerability, Lauren shares her recent experience of feeling crushed under mounting pressures and questioning God's presence. This relatable confession sets the stage for unpacking the profound truth hidden within the familiar biblical account: Jesus was in the boat the entire time. While the disciples panicked as waves crashed and water filled their vessel, the Master slept peacefully, demonstrating a calm that defied their circumstances.

The heart of this message isn't about avoiding storms but recognizing we never face them alone. "Sometimes Jesus calms the storm around us. Other times he calms the storm inside of us," Lauren observes, offering a perspective that applies to every listener's unique situation. Whether you're battling health concerns, relationship difficulties, work stress, or emotional turmoil, the invitation remains the same—to trust the presence of the One who commands even the wind and waves.

Lauren concludes with a simple yet powerful practice for stormy seasons: pausing to whisper "peace be still"—the very words Jesus spoke to silence the tempest. Try it today when anxiety rises, and remember that the Prince of Peace journeys with you through every storm. 00:00:18.324 --> 00:00:19.929
Let's get started.

00:00:19.929 --> 00:00:23.300
And now Weekends with Lauren.

00:00:23.300 --> 00:00:26.463
And now Weekends with Lauren.

00:00:26.483 --> 00:00:27.664
Welcome to Day 89,.

00:00:27.664 --> 00:00:29.204
Peace in the Storm.

00:00:29.204 --> 00:00:34.770
We'll be in Mark, chapter 4, verses 39-40 from the New Living Translation.

00:00:34.770 --> 00:00:37.732
Hey, buddy, I'm so happy you're here today.

00:00:37.732 --> 00:00:42.176
I want to talk to you about something we all go through life storms.

00:00:45.520 --> 00:00:51.962
You know those unexpected moments when everything feels like it's crashing down stress at work, health issues, relationship struggles or just an overwhelming sense of chaos.

00:00:51.962 --> 00:00:56.231
I had one of those weeks recently where everything felt like too much.

00:00:56.231 --> 00:01:01.695
It was like one thing after another kept piling on and I felt completely out of control.

00:01:01.695 --> 00:01:06.382
And in that moment I found myself thinking God, where are you in all of this?

00:01:06.382 --> 00:01:11.912
That's when I stumbled on this powerful verse from Mark 4, 39 through 40.

00:01:11.912 --> 00:01:18.117
It says when Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves silence be still.

00:01:18.117 --> 00:01:21.382
Suddenly, the wind stopped and there was a great calm.

00:01:21.382 --> 00:01:24.808
Then he asked them why are you afraid, do you still?

00:01:25.430 --> 00:01:28.474
This is one of my favorite stories in the Bible.

00:01:28.474 --> 00:01:32.971
Jesus is literally in a boat with his disciples and a crazy storm hits.

00:01:32.971 --> 00:01:38.251
The waves are crashing, the boat is filling with water and the disciples are freaking out.

00:01:38.251 --> 00:01:42.849
Meanwhile Jesus, he's sleeping, completely calm in the chaos.

00:01:42.849 --> 00:01:44.492
But here's what hit me.

00:01:44.492 --> 00:01:47.281
Jesus was in the boat the whole time.

00:01:47.281 --> 00:01:49.566
The storm didn't mean he wasn't there.

00:01:49.566 --> 00:01:51.409
It didn't mean he didn't care.

00:01:51.409 --> 00:01:53.441
It was actually the opposite.

00:01:53.441 --> 00:01:58.352
When the disciples finally called out to him, he calmed the storm with just a single word.

00:01:59.221 --> 00:02:00.463
And I think that's where we get stuck.

00:02:00.463 --> 00:02:08.105
Sometimes we face storms and we assume God's distant or silent, but he's right there with us, even when it feels like everything is falling apart.

00:02:08.105 --> 00:02:11.353
Sometimes Jesus calms a storm around us.

00:02:11.353 --> 00:02:14.225
Other times he calms the storm inside of us.

00:02:14.225 --> 00:02:21.108
So if you're in the middle of a storm right now, whether it's big or small, know this you're not alone.

00:02:21.108 --> 00:02:26.161
Jesus is right in the boat with you, and his peace is bigger than whatever you're facing.

00:02:26.161 --> 00:02:35.508
Here's something simple to try when life feels overwhelming take a moment, close your eyes and whisper the words Jesus spoke peace be still.

00:02:35.508 --> 00:02:40.305
Let that be your reminder that the one who calms the storms is right there with you.

00:02:40.305 --> 00:02:42.629
Let's pray together.

00:02:42.629 --> 00:02:46.608
Lord, thank you for being with us in the middle of life's storms.

00:02:46.608 --> 00:02:50.954
Help us to trust that you're in control, even when everything feels chaotic.

00:02:50.954 --> 00:02:54.305
Calm our anxious hearts and fill us with your peace today.

00:02:54.305 --> 00:02:56.250
In Jesus' name amen.

00:02:58.194 --> 00:02:59.076
That's all for now.

00:02:59.076 --> 00:03:02.966
