Day 93 Difficult Truths | Mark 10:32-34

Day 93 Difficult Truths | Mark 10:32-34

Send us a text

Ever notice how quickly we change the subject when conversations get uncomfortable? Today's reflection from Mark 10:32-34 highlights this all-too-human tendency as Jesus leads His disciples toward Jerusalem.

The scene is striking - Jesus walks ahead with determination while His followers trail behind, filled with awe and fear. For the third time, He plainly tells them what awaits Him: betrayal, mockery, torture, death, and resurrection. No sugarcoating, no euphemisms. Yet rather than engaging with these difficult truths, the disciples avoid the subject entirely.

Sound familiar? We do this constantly. Families sidestep conversations about finances, addiction, health problems, and strained relationships. We distract ourselves with trivialities rather than addressing what truly matters. This avoidance may feel protective in the moment, but it prevents us from living authentically.

Jesus models a radically different approach. He faces His suffering head-on, not because He welcomes pain, but because He understands its purpose. His courage wasn't about fearlessness—it was about walking forward despite knowing exactly what hardships awaited Him. And He did it all for us.

Today, consider what difficult reality you've been avoiding. A tough conversation? A necessary decision? A painful truth? Whatever your "Jerusalem" might be, ask God for the courage to face it directly, trusting His presence through every step of the journey. When we follow Jesus' example of courageous honesty, we discover that God meets us precisely in those places we've been most afraid to go.

00:00:19.489 --> 00:00:21.019
Let's get started.

00:00:21.019 --> 00:00:24.221
Let's get started.

00:00:24.240 --> 00:00:33.962
Today is Day 93, difficult Truths from the Gospel of Mark, chapter 10, verses 32-34, from the New Living Translation.

00:00:33.962 --> 00:00:38.923
They were now on the way up to Jerusalem and Jesus was walking ahead of them.

00:00:38.923 --> 00:00:44.603
The disciples were filled with awe and the people following behind were overwhelmed with fear.

00:00:44.603 --> 00:00:51.204
Taking the twelve disciples aside, jesus once more began to describe everything that was about to happen to him.

00:00:51.204 --> 00:01:00.127
Listen, he said we're going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law.

00:01:00.127 --> 00:01:04.028
They will sentence him to die and hand him over to the Romans.

00:01:04.028 --> 00:01:12.368
They will mock him, spit on him, flog him with a whip and kill him, but after three days he will rise again.

00:01:13.409 --> 00:01:19.751
This was the third time that Jesus had clearly told the disciples about the painful events awaiting him in Jerusalem.

00:01:19.751 --> 00:01:24.691
The harsh details made it clear that this journey would be incredibly difficult.

00:01:24.691 --> 00:01:35.674
Yet how did the disciples respond, instead of facing this tough reality, they chose to distract themselves or change the subject.

00:01:35.674 --> 00:01:39.233
We a lot of times act the same way.

00:01:39.233 --> 00:01:50.275
Families avoid discussing hard realities like financial struggles, addiction, health problems, strained relationships, even funeral planning.

00:01:50.275 --> 00:01:57.656
Instead of dealing openly with what's necessary, we distract ourselves with less difficult topics.

00:01:57.656 --> 00:02:07.239
It's natural for us to avoid the tough things, but Jesus sets a powerful example by facing his suffering and death head on.

00:02:07.239 --> 00:02:17.840
He chose to endure these things so that we could be forgiven and experience eternal life with God.

00:02:21.439 --> 00:02:22.802
Jesus went to Jerusalem fully aware of the suffering ahead.

00:02:22.802 --> 00:02:26.793
He courageously took this hardship for your sake, for my sake and for everybody who believed in him.

00:02:26.793 --> 00:02:33.573
Today, consider an uncomfortable or difficult situation that you've been avoiding.

00:02:33.573 --> 00:02:40.733
Ask God to give you strength and courage to face it directly, trusting him every step of the way.

00:02:40.733 --> 00:02:44.645
Let's pray Jesus.

00:02:44.645 --> 00:02:52.606
Thank you for courageously facing the hardest things that you could so that we could have eternal life.

00:02:52.606 --> 00:02:58.245
Give us the strength to honestly face our own difficult realities.

00:02:58.245 --> 00:03:01.953
In your mighty name we pray Amen.

00:03:01.953 --> 00:03:13.447
Name.

00:03:13.447 --> 00:03:13.747
We pray Amen.

00:03:13.747 --> 00:03:16.159
Well, that's all for today, but I'll be back tomorrow with more of God's Word.
