Day 98 What a Request | Mark 10:49-52

Day 98 What a Request | Mark 10:49-52

Send us a text

What would you ask for if Jesus stopped everything and asked, "What do you want me to do for you?" Would your request reflect your immediate struggles or something deeply transformative?

Day 98 of our journey takes us back to the powerful story of Bartimaeus in Mark 10:49-52. When Jesus calls this blind beggar forward, Bartimaeus doesn't hesitate – he throws aside his coat, jumps up, and approaches Jesus with remarkable boldness. Rather than requesting money or temporary assistance (which would have been perfectly reasonable given his circumstances), Bartimaeus asks for complete transformation: "I want to see."

The question Jesus poses invites radical honesty about our deepest needs. Many of us approach God with surface-level requests, forgetting we're speaking to the One who can completely transform our lives. Bartimaeus recognized Jesus not just as a traveling teacher but as the promised Messiah capable of miraculous restoration. His faith was rewarded with immediate sight, followed by a life-altering decision to follow Jesus down the road.

Today's reflection challenges us to examine what we truly seek in our relationship with God. Are we settling for small requests when transformational healing is available? Do we recognize who we're talking to when we pray? Jesus still asks each of us, "What do you want me to do for you?" – and waits for our bold, faithful response. Join us as we learn to approach God with both honesty about our deepest needs and faith in His power to completely transform our lives.

Welcome to Wisdom for the Day, your daily source for spiritual refreshment and guidance.

00:00:07.394 --> 00:00:08.762
I'm Rick.

00:00:08.762 --> 00:00:13.653
Join me as I dive into God's Word to find clarity and strength for life's challenges.

00:00:13.653 --> 00:00:19.484
Let me help you embrace each day with faith and wisdom, ready to feel inspired.

00:00:19.484 --> 00:00:21.070
Let's get started.

00:00:21.070 --> 00:00:24.623
Today is day 98.

00:00:24.984 --> 00:00:29.672
What a request from the gospel of Mark, chapter 10, verses 49 through 52.

00:00:29.672 --> 00:00:37.597
And don't forget, I do know this is the third day we're using the same verse, but I told you yesterday that it was going to happen again.

00:00:37.597 --> 00:00:42.131
When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said tell him to come here.

00:00:42.131 --> 00:00:45.128
So they called the blind man, cheer up.

00:00:45.128 --> 00:00:47.323
They said Come on, he's calling you.

00:00:47.323 --> 00:00:51.533
Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up and came to Jesus.

00:00:51.533 --> 00:00:53.503
What do you want me to do for you?

00:00:53.503 --> 00:00:55.468
Jesus asked my rabbi.

00:00:55.468 --> 00:00:57.432
The blind man said I want to see.

00:00:57.432 --> 00:01:01.506
And Jesus said to him go, for your faith has healed you.

00:01:01.506 --> 00:01:05.873
Instantly the man could see and he followed Jesus down the road.

00:01:07.240 --> 00:01:16.126
Now, as we revisit this story today, let's pay attention to the powerful question that Jesus asked Bartimaeus what do you want me to do for you?

00:01:16.126 --> 00:01:30.206
Now, considering Bartimaeus' situation, we might have expected him to ask for basic help, some food money, some temporary relief, but instead Bartimaeus boldly asked for something much greater.

00:01:30.206 --> 00:01:36.125
He requests sight, fully aware that this would completely transform his life.

00:01:36.125 --> 00:01:42.042
Imagine Jesus asking you that same question what do you want me to do for you?

00:01:42.042 --> 00:01:44.006
How would you answer?

00:01:44.006 --> 00:01:54.409
It's natural to seek immediate help for our daily struggles, and Jesus certainly cares about those things, but we've got to not forget who's asking.

00:01:54.409 --> 00:02:01.850
Bartimaeus knew Jesus was the promised Savior, the one who could give him far more than just temporary relief.

00:02:01.850 --> 00:02:09.308
Jesus encourages us to be honest about our deepest needs, our need for God's mercy and forgiveness.

00:02:09.308 --> 00:02:21.241
Let's boldly ask him for the life-changing gift of forgiveness and the new life so that we can fully experience the hope and purpose he offers Today.

00:02:22.163 --> 00:02:26.133
Take a moment to clearly and boldly express your deepest need to Jesus.

00:02:26.133 --> 00:02:30.549
Remember he's ready and willing to transform your life completely.

00:02:30.549 --> 00:02:32.252
Let's pray.

00:02:32.252 --> 00:02:37.110
Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.

00:02:37.110 --> 00:02:42.731
Thank you for your grace and love that offer me forgiveness and new life.

00:02:42.731 --> 00:02:48.423
Help me to boldly trust you and faithfully follow your path, amen.

00:02:48.423 --> 00:02:56.034
Well, that's all for today, but I'll be back tomorrow with more of God's Word.
